Journalists who cover environment, renewable energy, water research and innovation may now apply for the 14th Murray Fromson Journalism Fellowship in Israel. Theme is "AgTech in the Negev".

Named for veteran CBS reporter Murray Fromson who died in June 2018, the annual fellowship program encompasses a weeklong series of meetings with researchers, science excursions and soon-to-be-published research. The fellowship is open to staff writers and freelancers who report for United States-focused outlets.

The Fromson Fellowship is organized and led by American Associates, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (AABGU).

Eligibility: The cohort is open to a limited number of pre-qualified science and technology freelance or staff journalists at bona fide United States news media. Freelance writers must indicate evidence of bylined work pertaining to technology, science and any of the research topics intended for the general public and published within the past year.

A maximum of 10 journalists will be selected to participate as part of this year’s cohort. Only journalists who demonstrate a focus on the following topics will be given strong consideration though we welcome anyone to apply.

Specific topic areas include:

  •     Renewable energy
  •     Desalination science
  •     Smart irrigation
  •     Agricultural science and technology

Additional information and tentative itinerary.

The Fromson Fellowship underwrites the fellows’ travel, accommodations and meal costs during the five-day program. Reporters and/or their publications may cover the fellowship stipend if required.
