DEADLINE: One World Media Fellowships

Event Date:
March 21, 2024

Each year, One World Media selects Fellows from around the world who are working on stories from the global south.

Each year, the Fellowship supports emerging journalists through training, mentorship and funding to tell underreported stories from the global south. In 2023, we'll select 10 Fellows to report about people and communities we don't often hear about.

Our Fellows have produced stories on a wide of range of topics like climate induced migration in Pakistan and drag performers in Istanbul as well as reported from as far and wide as Sierra Leone, Mexico and Armenia. Our alumni work across mediums and have had their work appear in outlets like Al Jazeera, The Baffler and National Geographic.

Selected fellows receive a £1,000 production grant, one-to-one mentoring and a year-round programme of industry workshops and webinars, while they produce a non-fiction piece of media.

What projects do we support?

  • Creative and engaging non-fiction stories from low- and middle-income countries across the global south.
  • Proposals for a short documentary film, print, audio or multimedia piece.
  • We support small scale projects that can be delivered within a year – for films, this is under 30 mins in duration.
  • Projects that highlight the voices of people who are not often heard.

Applicants must be from and based in a global south country and working on a project that involves reporting from the global south. And this is a free opportunity to apply to.We particularly encourage submissions from underrepresented groups (people of color, ethnic groups, women, LGBTQ+, or people with disabilities).

Deadline: Mar 21, 2024.
