Help Environmental Journalists Catch up to Climate Change

Meera SubramanianDecember 26, 2018 — This year, I finally did it. I joined the board of directors of the Society of Environmental Journalists.

How could I not? After more than a decade as a member of the organization, after learning so much at annual conferences packed with smart people and informative sessions, after being recognized with an SEJ award for a story on India’s vanishing vultures (just when I was sure I was never going to be able to pull off this crazy, seat-of-your-pants freelance thing), after benefitting from a Fund for Environmental Journalism grant that got me to India for critical book reporting... how could I not give back?

And so I serve. And so I ask for your support. I believe in this organization's ability to keep the field of environmental journalism strong, right when we need it most.

Earlier this month, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said: "We are in deep trouble with climate change. Climate change is running faster than we are, and we must catch up sooner rather than later, before it is too late."

Part of catching up is supporting the organizations that support the journalists covering climate change and so many other important environmental issues around the world.
